Mel Gibson`s ex-girlfriend was "driven crazy"
The actor has split from Oksana Grigorieva, with who he has five-month-old daughter Lucia. The pair were first seen in public together last April, shortly after Mel`s wife of 28 years Robin filed for divorce. Mel and Robin had been separated for some time before she decided to start legal proceedings, although they had not publicly announced they were separated.
Mel has seven children with Robin, and both have tried hard to make their split as amicable as possible for the sake of the kids. It has been claimed Oksana found their friendship difficult to deal with, putting their relationship under strain. "She got very jealous. They didn`t speak for a while following the divorce but Mel has made it clear Robyn is the one person who will be his soulmate the rest of his life and understands him better then he knows himself," a source said. "It drove Oksana crazy."
Although neither Mel nor Oksana have commented on the split, it has been reported Mel`s family hope he will now spend more time with his other children. His relationships with them are said to have been fraught due to the impending divorce, with the kids now looking forward to spending more time with their dad.
"Mel`s family is happy that the relationship is over," a family friend told the American edition of OK! magazine. "They felt like he forgot who he was for a bit and was so focused on Oksana and the new baby that he was missing out on important parts of his other children. It`s good to have their father back in their lives."
Mel and Oksana have reportedly agreed to share caring for their daughter.
